Lessons are offered on one of two bases:
- Regular weekly or fortnightly lessons whereby a fixed slot is reserved in the studio timetable;
- Ad-hoc lessons which are offered on a book and pay-as-you-go basis.
The policy for each is outlined below.
Subscription and Monthly Payments for Regular Lessons
The majority of pupils reserve a fixed weekly or fortnightly slot in the studio timetable. The studio works on a monthly ‘subscription’ payment for personalised tuition over the course of the academic year: you pay the same amount every month, regardless of how many lessons there are in any given month. This spreads your payments evenly across the full year (12 months). This is based on me being available to teach for a minimum of 40 weeks in the year (this takes into account holidays and other days I may need to take off for training etc).
You can find a selection of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) here.
The amount you pay, and the number of lessons per year this entitles you to, depends on your normal lesson frequency, as per the table below:
Payments are due on or before the first day in each of the 12 months in the year, and are best set up as a standing order from your bank account, but can also be paid by card, cash or cheque. Invoices are automatically generated and emailed at least seven days before payment is due.
As with other regular activities such as a course of swimming lessons, gym membership etc. there are no refunds if you cancel a lesson – as well as actual lesson time, you are paying for me to reserve a slot in the studio timetable for you, and for the ongoing admin, preparation, training and professional development work outside of your lesson time.
If on occasion you cannot make your usual lesson time, subject to availability, the lesson can be rearranged to a different time during the same week/fortnight.
Any additional lessons taken during the course of the academic year which exceed the 40 paid for under the monthly subscription will be charged for pro-rata of an hourly rate of £36.00 per hour.
Where a pupil begins lessons during the academic year, payment will be due as outlined above. Where lessons begin after 15th of the month, the first payment will be due at the beginning of the next calendar month. Where lessons begin before 15th of the month, that month’s payment will be due as normal.
Payments for Ad-Hoc Tuition
If you don’t wish to reserve a regular weekly or fortnightly slot in the studio timetable, then you can book and pay for lessons on an ad-hoc basis. These lessons will be charged pro-rata of an hourly rate of £36.00 per hour. Payment is due before or on the day of the lesson.
Lessons booked on an ad-hoc basis may be cancelled up to 48 hours in advance without charge. Lessons cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice, regardless of the reason, will be charged for. If on occasion you cannot make your booked lesson time, subject to availability, the lesson can be rearranged to a different time during the same week.
Missed Lessons and Cancellations
In addition to the policies outlined above, if for any reason I have to cancel a lesson myself, I will offer a make-up lesson at a different time, or if a suitable time cannot be arranged, I will refund the cost. Bear in mind that although the monthly subscription covers the equivalent of 40 lessons per academic year, I am likely to offer more than 40 teaching weeks.
Termination of Lessons
If you decide to stop having lessons, one month’s notice will be required, and fees will be charged up to the end of the notice period, whether or not the lessons are taken. Please note that where tuition ceases during the course of an academic year, an additional or amended invoice may be issued to cover any shortfall in payments.
This policy, along with lesson fees, is revised annually. Six weeks’ notice of any changes will be given in writing.
